Mari unofficially edges out Williams in 52nd District seat race
James Mari is keeping his razor-thin lead over Lloyd Williams in the Democratic race for the party’s nomination for the 52nd Legislative District seat in the state General Assembly.
With 100 percent of Fayette County precincts reporting, the unofficial tally showed that Mari received 52.74 percent of votes cast on the Democratic ticket, according to unofficial results from the Fayette County Election Bureau. Williams received 47.26 percent of votes cast on the Democratic side.
Mari unofficially received 3,954 votes across 80 precincts in Fayette County and six districts in Westmoreland County, 411 more than Williams.
Democratic voters are choosing a candidate to challenge incumbent Rep. Ryan Warner, R-Perryopolis, for a two-year term in the fall. Warner is running unopposed on the Republican ballot.
The 52nd District includes the city of Connellsville, Bullskin, Dunbar, Lower Tyrone, Menallen, North Union, Perry, Saltlick and Upper Tyrone townships; and Dawson, Dunbar, Everson, Perryopolis, South Connellsville and Vanderbilt boroughs, as well as the Fayette County portion of Seven Springs borough. It also includes Scottdale borough and part of East Huntingdon Township in Westmoreland County.
