Two elephant sculptures now have a permanent home in Pittsburgh.
Located outside MuseumLab on the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh’s campus, Tara and Peanut are life-sized sculptures of an elephant matriarch and calf created by The Real Elephant Collective, a group of 200 Indigenous artisans from India’s Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The sculptures are crafted entirely from lantana camara, one of the world’s most invasive plant species, helping restore wildlife habitat while transforming an environmental challenge into art.
