Historic Hanna’s Town hosts Frontier Family Days
On Saturday and Sunday, Historic Hanna’s Town is hosting Frontier Family Days and a tavern crawl.
Visitors will be able to experience the sights, sounds, and stories of 1776 through immersive living history, interactive demonstrations, and family-friendly activities. They will encounter costumed interpreters portraying soldiers, settlers, artisans, and public officials whose daily lives helped shape the American frontier during the nation’s founding.
“The 250th anniversary of the United States invites us to broaden our understanding of the American Revolution and recognize that the nation’s path to independence was forged not only in places like Philadelphia, but also in frontier communities such as Hanna’s Town,” said Lauren Churilla, executive director of the Westmoreland Historical Society. “History reminds us that people from all walks of life- farmers, artisans, merchants, enslaved and indentured laborers, women, children, Indigenous peoples, immigrants, and local leaders-all contributed in vital and meaningful ways to the nation’s founding.”
Adults 21 and older can also extend the celebration during the Sunday tavern crawl, featuring regional craft breweries including Devout and Yellowbridge alongside non-alcoholic choices as well.
Frontier Family Days includes live music and entertainment, trivia, children’s crafts and activities, guided nature walks, local food, and an opportunity to experience the site’s historic tavern traditions in an immersive setting.
Proceeds support the Westmoreland Historical Society’s mission to preserve, interpret, and share the history of Westmoreland County.
