Hear ye! Hear ye! Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival opens this weekend

1 min read

A patch of Rostraver Township in Westmoreland County is being transformed into West Morelandshire as the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival begins Saturday.

This year’s festival had been due to start last weekend, but it was postponed due to conditions at the site caused by August’s heavy rains. During the festival, which will unfold on weekends and Labor Day through Sept. 27, festivalgoers will be able to experience immersive entertainment designed for people of all ages.

There will be three armored jousts daily, nine stages of entertainment, music, comedy, sword swallowing, knighting ceremonies and more.

New entertainment at the festival this year will include comedy, stunts and fire from the Knotty Nauticals, sword fighting courtesy of the Renaissance Men, aerial stunts from Cirqa Brava. New shops this year will be selling juggling toys, hand-carved wooden dishware, coins and medallions created on the spot and fantasy-themed headwear and accessories.

Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. For information go online to pittsburghrenfest.com.
