Don McLean plays at South Park Friday
Don McLean will forever be known for the song “American Pie,” and he will almost certainly be playing it when he plays at South Park Amphitheater Friday.
How embedded is “American Pie” in the American psyche? It’s in the Grammy Hall of Fame and is part of the National Recording Registry that’s been assembled by the Library of Congress. President Yoon Suk-Yeol of South Korea sang a short rendition of “American Pie” when he visited the White House, and President Joe Biden presented Yoon with an acoustic guitar signed by McLean.
Now 80, some of McLean’s other hits include “Vincent,” “Castles in the Air” and a cover of Roy Orbison’s “Crying.”
The concert is free and part of the Allegheny County Summer Concert Series. Singer Josh Travis is opening. The show starts at 7;30 p.m. For information, go online to www.alleghenycounty.us.
