Uniontown’s State Theatre hosts reading of ‘Beautiful Future Is Coming’
The National Road Heritage Corridor (NRHC) will present a special staged reading of “The Beautiful Future Is Coming” by acclaimed playwright Flora Wilson Brown on June 4 at 7 p.m. at the State Theatre Center for the Arts in Uniontown.
Directed by Ingrid Sonnichsen and presented in an intimate “in the round” format, the production places audience members directly on stage surrounding the performers, creating an immersive theatrical experience with only 99 available seats.
Spanning multiple generations and timelines, “The Beautiful Future Is Coming” explores climate, memory, human connection, and hope through deeply personal stories that invite audiences to reflect on the future of community and place.
The event reflects NRHC’s broader mission to connect people to the historic places and cultural landscapes that define Southwestern Pennsylvania.
“At NRHC, we believe historic places remain relevant when they continue to serve as centers of creativity, conversation, and community connection,” said Sarah Collier, executive director of the National Road Heritage Corridor. “This production creates an opportunity for audiences to experience a meaningful contemporary work within one of our region’s important historic landmarks.”
The performance also serves as a fundraiser benefiting the State Theatre Center for the Arts Preservation Fund, supporting ongoing preservation and improvement efforts at the theater.
