Meadowcroft to offer free admission for kids this fall
Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, located outside Avella, will offer free general admission for all kids aged 17 and under from September through November.
A one-day getaway for families in the tri-state region, Meadowcroft offers visitors a glimpse into the lives of prehistoric hunters and gatherers, early settlers, and American Indians.
Meadowcroft will host several public programs this fall, including:
–Second Saturdays, Saturday, Oct. 10, and Nov. 14: Guests can try their hand at historic village chores at Meadowcroft’s Second Saturdays. From seasonal tasks to everyday village work, visitors will discover what life was really like in early America.
–Covered Bridge Festival, Sept. 19-20: Meadowcroft’s 1871 Pine Bank Covered Bridge will be part of the annual celebration of covered bridges.
–Walk in Penn’s Woods, Oct. 4: In cooperation with the Pennsylvania Forestry Association, Penn State University, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Meadowcroft will serve as a host venue for a day of educational woodland walks, highlighting Pennsylvania’s forest and wildlife resources from prehistory to modern day.
–Meadowcroft’s taffy pull and fall finale, Nov. 21: Visitors can explore one of Meadowcroft’s historic log houses to learn about traditional confections while making an old-fashioned sweet treat to take home. An additional program fee applies, and pre-registration is recommended.
Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village is open from Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Labor Day. During its fall season (Labor Day through Nov. 22) the site is open on Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
