One miner remains hospitalized after an underground accident at the Harvey Mine in Greene County late Monday night.

Six miners were initially taken to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment after the incident, which involved a pressurized water hose, mine owner Core Natural Resources said in a statement Tuesday morning.

Greene County officials received the call around 11 p.m. from Washington County Ambulance & Chair, Emergency Services Director Richard Policz said.

Five of the miners were treated and released, while one remains in a hospital for further evaluation, Core said.

“We are conducting an internal review of last night’s event to determine the exact cause of the accident while working with all appropriate agencies,” Core said in the statement.

The mine is located along Patterson Creek Road in Sycamore.
