Deakyn DeHoet did all he could in trying to help Jefferson-Morgan’s football team match last year’s undefeated regular season and while the Rockets came up short of that goal the J-M senior had another outstanding year.

Jefferson-Morgan did go 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the Tri-County South under head coach Shane Ziats and qualified for the WPIAL playoffs for the second year in a row with DeHoet playing a huge role. He led the area in touchdowns (28) and scoring (176 points) while serving as a wide receiver/running back for the Rockets and also stepped in to play quarterback when needed.

DeHoet racked up a combined 1,564 yards with 816 rushing and 748 receiving, was one of J-M’s top defensive players as a linebacker/cornerback with four interceptions, and was his team’s punter. He also was a dangerous kick returner, considered so lethal that teams refused to kick the ball anywhere near him as the season wore on.

DeHoet had the highest average yards per rush (12.8) and catch (23.4) among the area’s leading runners and receivers. Unfortunately, a concussion prevented DeHoet from participating in J-M’s playoff game which it lost at Laurel.

DeHoet is the Greene County Messenger All-County Team Player of the Year and a member of the First Team. Ziats is the Coach of the Year.

Waynesburg Central also reached the playoffs under head coach Joe Kuhns who began his second stint guiding the Raiders. Waynesburg won three of its last four games to finish the regular season at 5-5 and 3-3 in the Century Conference before falling to South Allegheny in the first round of the playoffs. Kuhns is the Coach of the Year Runner-up.

Joining DeHoet as a member of the First Team and Player of the Year Runner-up is Waynesburg Central’s two-way quarterback threat Teagen Crouse who was the county’s leading passer (101 of 183 for 13 touchdowns and 1,843 yards). Other members of the First Team are
