Brownsville Lester V. Andrews

Lester V. Andrews, 80, of Brownsville, Pa., died Thursday, June 13, 2002, in UPMC, Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born January 5, 1922, in Allison, Pa., son of Morean Andrews and Emma Adamir Andrews.

He was a member of Hiller Fire Hall.

A son, Robert J. Andrews, a sister, Roxanne Moser, and parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Krajeski Andrews; two sons: John R. Andrews, Brownsville, Pa., and Mark A. Andrews and his fianc?e, Kellie Valentine, Erie, Pa.; and two grandsons: Brian and Jason.

Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Pa., today from 2 to 5 p.m.

A Blessing Service will be held Monday, June 17 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Fr. James Petrovsky officiating.

Interment follows in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.

Catholic Daughters of America Court 1141 Brownsville will have services today at 3 p.m.

Chestnut Ridge

Stanley M. Brachna

Stanley M. Brachna, age 78, of Chestnut Ridge, Pa., passed away in Uniontown Hospital on Tuesday, June 11, 2002.

He was born on May 25, 1924, in Smock, Pa., the son of the late Andrew Brachna and Ruth (Gondola) Brachna.

Stanley was a retired Foreman from United States Steel’s coal mines.

He was a Veteran of World War II who served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre of War on the U.S.S. Vicksburg.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Archual) Brachna in August of 1988, and a sister, Florence Warnick.

He is survived by a daughter, Sheila Staggers of Chestnut Ridge, Pa., and a son, Stanley R. Brachna of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother, Ralph N. Brachna of Normalville, Pa.; and a loving granddaughter, Lori Karam and husband, Tony, of Allison Park, Pa.; and a great granddaughter, Kylie Marie Karam.

Private services were held and entombment followed at Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.

Uniontown

William H. Conroy

William H. “Bill” Conroy, 79, of Uniontown, Pa., died Thursday, June 13, 2002, in Mount Saint Macrina Manor.

He was born November 6, 1922, in York Run, Pa., son of Michael Conroy and Sarah Ellen Blanch Conroy.

Mr. Conroy was a Veteran of World War II who served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant with the Medical Corps.

He was a City of Uniontown employee for over 41 years and retired as Superintendent of the Uniontown Sanitation Department.

He was a member of Central Christian Church in Uniontown, General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., American Legion Post 51 in Uniontown, Past Commander and life member of Disabled American Veterans, and was the Manager of The Uniontown Circle Club for the past 29 years.

A brother, James Edward Conroy, six sisters, Elizabeth Rich, Mary Ellen Conroy, Alice Brushel, Rose Rozzi, Kathryn Dollar, Grace Donley, and parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elva E. Retkofsky Conroy, with whom he would have celebrated their 55th anniversary yesterday, Saturday, June 15; and two sisters: Virginia Lee Constable of Footedale, Pa., and Emma Jean Wydra and her husband, Adam, of Mason, Illinois.

Friends will be received in the JEROME W. SHELL FUNERAL HOME, 164 South Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, June 17, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with the Rev. Arthur Mace officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown, where Military Services will be accorded by General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.

Uniontown Circle Club will hold services this evening at 7 p.m.

Visitation was also held Saturday form 7 to 9 p.m.

Charles Aubury Cuppett

Charles Aubury “Tim” Cuppett, age 58, of Addison, Pa., died Friday, June 14, 2002, at his home.

He was born March 16, 1944, in Addison, Pa.

“Tim” graduated from Turkeyfoot High School, served with the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, and was employed as an Equipment Operator for Keystone Limestone Company.

His father, Hugh Cuppett, and a brother, Philip Cuppett, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his mother, Marion Holiday Cuppett of Addison, Pa.; his wife, Jerrilyn Knight Cuppett; two daughters: Carol and husband, Justin Thompson, of Vanderbilt, Pa., and Tammy and husband, George Pyle, of Rockwood, Pa.; two grandchildren: Tiffany Thompson and Andy Pyle; and one brother, Ivan Cuppett of Cedar Springs, Michigan.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, at 3 p.m. in the Addison Community Building.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Addison Volunteer Fire Department.

Marjorie Y. Duxbury

Marjorie Yuhas Duxbury, 81, of St. Michaels, Maryland, and formerly of Wilkinsburg, Pa., retired Private Secretary from the former Mine Safety of Pittsburgh, Pa., and was born in California, Washington County, Pa., died Thursday, June 13, 2002, in Easton Memorial Hospital, Easton, Maryland.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John W. Duxbury Sr.; sons: John W. Duxbury Jr. of Greensburg, Pa., and Mark Duxbury and his wife, Rebecca, of Euclid, Ohio; granddaughter, Linda Duxbury Carpellotti and her husband, Nicholas Carpellotti, and very special great-granddaughter, Lindsay Carpellotti, all of Greensburg, Pa.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends were received at the Vaia Funeral Home Inc. at Twin Valley, 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, Pa., on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. until the service at 12 Noon.

West Toledo, Ohio

Wanda Sutton Garcher

Wanda W. Sutton Garcher, 75, of West Toledo, Ohio, passed away suddenly Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in Flower Hospital.

She was born October 3, 1926, in Fairchance, Fayette County, Pa., to Arthur Sutton and Ellen Hawkins Sutton.

Wanda was an Executive Secretary for the War Department at the Pentagon during 1944-1946.

She worked for the former Electric Autolite Company from 1946 to 1963 as a Supervisor of the Stenographic Pool and Secretary to the Comptroller and the Assistant Treasurer.

Wanda and Tom were married August 28, 1954.

Wanda was a fulltime Mother to their daughter, Elaine, for 18 years before joining the law firm of Coburn, Smith, Rohrbacher and Gibson as a Receptionist.

She was an active member of Fort Industry Chapter 391 Order of The Eastern Star, a 40-year member of Dendarah Court 10, Ladies Oriental Shrine, Charter Member of P’Takist, and a member of Dendarah Chorus and The Order of Amaranth 54.

Wanda was preceded in death by her daughter, Elaine Garcher Bridgman, and her parents.

She is survived by her mother, Ellen J. Sutton of Burke, Virginia; her loving husband, Thomas Garcher; a sister, Myrna J. Benckert and her husband, George, and a nephew, Arthur Benckert and his wife, Cathy, of Woodbridge, Virginia.

Friends may call at the BOYER VanWORMER SCOTT FUNERAL HOME, 5055 Secor Road (north of Laskey), Toledo, Ohio 43623, on Tuesday, June 18, after 6 p.m. where Memorial Services will be conducted by Fort Industry Chapter 391 at 7 p.m. followed by Dendarah Court services at 7:30 p.m.

Douglas W. Hagerty Sr.

Douglas W. Hagerty Sr., 71, a former resident of West Newton, Pa., Veteran of the United States Marine Corps who served in the Korean War, and retired Supervisor from Amax Molybdenum Company in Leadville, Colorado, died Thursday, June 13, 2002.

He is survived by a son, Douglas W. Hagerty Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren: Ashley and Jacob; and a brother, George D. Hagerty of Uniontown, Pa.

Elizabeth H. Hanok

Elizabeth Havrilesko Hanok, 85, of Coal Center, Pa., died Friday, June 14, 2002, in Pratt’s Personal Care Home, Carmichaels, Pa.

She was born November 25, 1916, in Daisytown, Pa., daughter of Mike Havrilesko and Mary Nezbit Havrilesko.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Brownsville, Pa., and retired from Fashion Cleaners in Brownsville, Pa.

Her husband, Steve Hanok, brothers, George, John and Mike Havrilesko, sister, Helen Stroud, and parents preceded her in death.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Havrilesko Rusnock of Jefferson, Pa.; a brother, Steve Havrilesko of Sarver, Pa.; eight nieces and nine nephews.

Jean E. Williams Harford died Thursday morning, June 14, 2002.

She is survived by her children: Kimberly Harford of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Robert D. Harford Jr. of Springfield, Virginia; her husband, Robert D. Harford Sr. of Uniontown, Pa.; a sister, Ruth Anne Morris of Washington, Pa.; and grandchildren: Lewis, Morgan and Ruby.

C. David Hellen of Greensboro, Pa., died Saturday, June 15, 2002, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia.

He was born June 29, 1942, in Gans, Pa., son of the now late Frank O. Hellen and Pauline Wimer Hellen.

He was a member of Mapletown United Methodist Church, was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 1270, and was a peacetime Veteran who served with the United States Air Force.

He was a retired Coal Miner and member of United Mine Workers of America Greensboro Local Union 6310.

He is survived by his wife, June Lott Hellen; their children: Troy Hellen and wife, Lori, of Jefferson, Pa., Hope and husband, Mark Blanker, of Point Marion, Pa., Frank Hellen and wife, Jamie, of Cheat Lake, West Virginia, Lisa and husband, Randy Rice, of Baltimore, Maryland; three grandchildren: Joshua, Jenna, Emily; brother and sisters: Arnold Hellen and wife, Patty, of Gans, Pa., Anna Marie Saterfield of Sandusky, Ohio, Jane Taylor and husband, George, of Gans, Pa., and Sherry Lewis and husband, Allan, of Shippensburg, Pa.; his aunt, Ruth Hellen of Smithfield, Pa.; aunt and uncle, Helen and J. Leona Marie “Nonie” Nascimben Kotlar of Perryopolis, Pa., passed away Saturday morning, June 15, 2002, in King’s Personal Care Home, Mountain Road, Georges Township, Fayette County, Pa.

On a wintry February 16, in Tyler, Pa., she was born to Virginio Nascimben and Josephine Guiardino Nascimben.

Three sisters, Rose Kezmarsky, Mary Phillips, Virginia Pesaturo, five brothers, Eugene “Geno”, Dominick, Joseph, Anthony and Milo Nascimben, and parents preceded her in death.

Leona is survived by her beloved husband, Edward Kotlar, with whom she celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on May 31, 2002.

She is also survived by a sister, Edith Florence Baker of Rosedale, Pa., and several nieces and nephews.

Eddie Jo Mitchell, age 44, of Adah, Pa., passed away Friday, June 14, 2002, at his home.

He was born April 23, 1958, in Arlington, Virginia, son of Betty D. Mitchell of Adah and the late Jo Paul Mitchell.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Georgette Whyle Mitchell; three children: Charlie David Mitchell of Florida, Eddie Jo Mitchell Jr. and Beth Marie Mitchell both of Adah; two sisters: Judy Misiewicz of Adah and Traci Coffman of Uniontown, Pa.; a brother, Herbert Mitchell of Adah; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law; two nephews and two nieces.

Eddie was a member of Assembly of God, Carmichaels, Pa., attended the former German Township High School, and was a member of Adah Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years.

Tammi Darlene “Sis” Rankin, 41, of Smithfield, Pa., died Saturday, June 15, 2002, in her residence.

She was born February 25, 1961, in Uniontown, Pa.

Tammi was predeceased by her father, Rodney Rankin, maternal grandfather, Thomas Dillow, and paternal grandparents, Catherine and Clarence Rankin.

Surviving are her mother, Bonnie Dillow Rankin, and maternal grandmother, Ethel Dillow, both of Smithfield; brothers and sisters: Gary and Donna Rankin, Uniontown, Pa., Tom Rankin, Rodney Rankin and Louann all of Fairchance, Pa., Ronald “Scott” and Debbie Rankin, Marian Rankin, Debbie Rankin and David Grimes all of Smithfield; nieces and nephews: Jamie and James Lindsay, Tom Rankin Jr. and Shawna, Gary Rankin Jr., Josh, Amber, JoHannah, JoKayla, Jennah, Jeremy, Alisha and David “Jake” all of Smithfield; great nieces: Deanna and Alexis Lindsay; several aunts and uncles; and a close friend, Nancy St. Clair.

He is survived by his wife, Zelma Ross; eight children; other relatives and friends.

Clemmons, North Carolina

Georgianna Brozich Wagner

Georgianna Brozich Wagner died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at her home in Clemmons, North Carolina.

A graduate of West Virginia University and the University of North Carolina, she grew up in Western Pennsylvania and graduated from Mapletown High School, Mapletown, Pa.

She taught in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and North Carolina school systems for more than 17 years.

A successful businesswoman, she owned and operated restaurants and retail gift stores.

She was a loving and caring wife who touched and helped so many people.

She is the daughter of +Michael and Mildred Brozik of Dilliner, Pa.

Family includes her husband, William Wagner, two sisters, Diana Brozich of Dilliner and Betty Parmer of Harrisburg, Pa., and two brothers, Stanley Brozik of Dilliner and Ronald Brozik of Supply, North Carolina.

A private service will be held.

Georgianna requested no flowers.

Robert E. Walko

Robert E. Walko, 80, of Carmichaels, Pa., and a former resident of Library, Pa., died Saturday, June 15, 2002, in his home.

He was born June 25, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of Stephen Joseph Walko and Anna Baranek Walko.

Mr. Walko graduated from Oliver High School.

He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II who served in the 28th Division from 1940 to 1945 and was decorated for action in Normandy and Ardennes.

Mr. Walko worked as a Milkman for Country Belle Dairy until 1977. He then worked for Upper St. Clair School District as a Custodian until his retirement in 1988.

He was Catholic, a Democrat, and a lifelong member of the Teamsters Union and the Pennsylvania Public Employees Service Union.

On September 16, 1948, in St. Justin’s Catholic Church, Mount Washington, Pa., he married Margaret Selma Lohman. She died September 1990.

Also deceased are a daughter, Louise Walko, three brothers, Stephen, John and Paul Walko, two sisters, Anna Miller and Mary D. Walko, and his parents.

Surviving are a son, Edward S. Walko and his wife, Chris, of Carmichaels; a daughter, Nancy, and her husband, Mike O’Horo, of Palm Harbor, Florida; seven grandchildren: Joseph Walko, John Walko, Mary Rose Walko, Max Walko, Zachary Walko, Robert O’Horo, and Sara O’Horo Campbell; a sister, Dorothy Henderson of Dearborn, Michigan; and Letty Cousins of Carmichaels with whom he made his home.

Friends will be received in the PAUL MICHAEL LESAKO FUNERAL HOME INC., Paul M. Lesako, Supervisor/Funeral Director, 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, Pa., on Tuesday, June 18, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Services will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Nathan Gladish of New Christian Church officiating.

Interment will follow in The Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township, Pa.
