Tractor Supply Co. to open store in Uniontown
Tractor Supply Co. will open its new Uniontown store about June 1. A “soft opening’ is currently scheduled for May 20, Becky Tucker, media spokesperson for the Nashville, Tenn.-based company, said.
Renovations on the former Quality Farm and Fleet store at Uniontown Shopping Center on Morgantown Road are nearly complete, she added.
Tractor Supply offers a comprehensive list of merchandise for the health, care, growth and containment of equine, livestock and pets as well as a selection of agricultural products, tools and hardware, light truck equipment, work clothing for men and women and a line of seasonal products including lawn and garden power equipment.
Late last year, the company was part of a group that acquired the assets of Quality Farm and Fleet stores. A joint venture of Tractor Supply Co., Great American Group, Gordon Brothers Retail Partners LLC and DJM Asset Management liquidated the entire inventory of 153 Quality Farm and Central Tractor stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, New York, Virginia, Delaware, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan.
The Uniontown Quality Farm store opened in June 1997, in the former Kmart store at the shopping center.
Tractor Supply Co., according to its Web site, was started in 1938 by Charles E. Schmidt Sr. of Chicago, who established a mail-order tractor parts business.
By 1939, it had grown into a successful retail store in Minot, N.D.
“Today, we are one of the largest retail chains in America which serves full- and part-time farmers and ranchers, hobby farmers, rural homeowners and contractors. We operate over 300 stores in 28 states.
“Whether you’re caring for one acre or a thousand, we have the products and services to help you get the job done. Both homeowners and farmers can find what they need at Tractor Supply Co. All types of feed, fencing, mowers, tools, work clothing and much, much more are included in our product offering,’ the company said. Tractor Supply Co. currently operates 384 stores in 29 states. The stores are located in rural communities and in outlying areas of large cities where the rural lifestyle is a significant part of the local economy.
The stores focus on selling products to hobby and part-time farmers and ranchers.
Tractor Supply has also opened in a former Quality Farm and Fleet store in Mount Pleasant. The company did $193.8 million in net sales during the first quarter of this year, a 19 percent increase from the same quarter in 2001. The company plans to open 87 new stores this year.
