Georges Township supervisors adopt budget with no tax increase
GEORGES TWP. – At their regular meeting Thursday, the township supervisors adopted the 2004 budget without a tax increase. The supervisors said the township has not raised taxes for nearly 40 years.
Under the .810-mill rate, township residents will pay $8.10 per every $10,000 in assessed home and property value. The township will receive an estimated $100,000 in revenue from property taxes from the 6,552 residents in the township next year.
The budget totals $891,923, and the highest expenditure in the budget is roadway maintenance and paving projects.
Supervisor Frank Churby said that each year, the township tries to pave 3 miles of township roads, and next year will be no different. In addition, he said the township will finish installing a 6-inch water line along Walnut Hill Road in the village of Continental 3.
Secretary Linda Smith said the township is carrying over about $70,000 from 2003 into next year’s budget, and that amount is included in the $891,923 total.
In another matter, Supervisor Mike Bartock commended the township’s snow and ice removal efforts during the last two snowfalls.
“I would like to thank the township workers for the excellent job they did on the last two snowstorms,” said Bartock. “They were out there night and day clearing the roads.”
Also, the supervisors entered into a bonding agreement with two lumber companies to remove timber along township roads: Coastal Lumber Co. of Hopwood to remove timber along Mud Pike, and Brown Timber & Land Co. of Acme to remove timber along East Elm Street.
