Arthur L. Bennett
Arthur L. Bennett, 80, a life-long resident of Dilliner R.D. 1, Pa., died Thursday, February 13, 2003 in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia.
Born October 7, 1922 in Dunkard Township, Greene County, Pa., in the house he was currently living in, he was a son of the late Frank V. Bennett and Lena Linton Bennett.
He was a 1940 graduate of Point Marion High School, attended California State Teacher’s College (now California University of Pennsylvania), and received his Masters Degree from West Virginia University.
Mr. Bennett served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a former member of Shordan Chapel United Methodist Church and a current member of the First Baptist Church of Dunkard, where he was a Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Bennett taught at Mapletown High School in the Southeastern Greene School District for 33 years, starting out as a Shop Teacher in 1947 and later as a Science, Physics and Chemistry teacher, until he retired in 1980. He was the sponsor of the Student Council and the Sci-Cam Club at the school.
He also drove school bus from 1947 until 1983.
He was a Charter Member of I.O.O.F. in Taylortown and both the Greensboro Lions Club and the Mount Morris Lions, where he was the current president.
Arthur served as a Dunkard Township Auditor, and was the President of the Board for the East Dunkard Water Association.
In his spare time he enjoyed farming and working in his wood shop.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Tholma Morley Bennett, in 1972.
Surviving are his wife, Diana VanDruff Bennett; four sons: Arthur Lynn Bennett of Bobtown, Pa., Barry K. Bennett Sr. and his wife Linda, Frank Bennett and Brian Bennett all of Dilliner; a stepson, John W. Stemple and his wife, Karla, of Morgantown, West Virginia; two grandsons: Barry Bennett Jr. and Christopher Bennett; one great-grandson, Eric Bennett; and a foster son, David Morris and his wife, Nancy, of Masontown, Pa.
Friends were received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, 501 Morgantown Street, Point Marion, Pa., on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and will be received today, Sunday, February 16, until 2 p.m., the hour of Service with Dr. Ken Ramsey officiating.
Interment follows in Fairview Cemetery, Taylortown, Greene County, Pa.
