ALLISON CHRISTIAN CHURCH announces the annual church retreat will be held at Laurelview Christian camp today and Saturday. MOUNT MORIAH BAPTIST CHURCH, 30 Church St., Smithfield, announces American Baptist Women’s Ministries will host a one-woman musical and dramatic production titled “Lord, Make Me the Person You Want Me to Be’ on Sunday during 10:45 a.m. worship. The drama was written by and features Pittsburgh vocalist and performer Janet Helms, who is involved in missionary work in Uganda, East Africa, where she advocates for orphans. A portion of the proceeds of her performances supports a Kinship Program that Helms founded to educate orphans and place them with extended family members.

Helms is a graduate of Grove City College where she majored in religious studies. Helms is a featured vocalist at her church, founded the Sonshine Singers children’s choir and is involved in Women of Pittsburgh 2000, an organization dedicated to eradicating racial barriers among women. She is a founder and past chairwoman of the Ebony and Ivory Ball, a celebration of racial harmony.

ST. ALOYSIUS ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN DUNBAR AND ST. VINCENT DEPAUL ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN LEISENRING are hosting special services for the Year of the Eucharist called by Pope John Paul II. On Monday at St. Vincent de Paul, Mass is at noon, followed by exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and personal adoration until 7 p.m. This is also the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul and there will be a Mass for the intention of all parishioners living and deceased. There will be veneration of the relic of St. Vincent de Paul. At 7 p.m., there will be Eucharistic devotion, procession with the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. On Tuesday at St. Aloysius, there will be a prayer service at noon, followed by exposition of the Blessed Sacrament until 7 p.m. At 6:45 p.m., the Novena to the Blessed Mother will begin. ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, Route 51, Perryopolis, announces the Rev. Scott Seethaler, a Capuchin-Franciscan, will conduct a parish mission Sept. 26-29 as part of the parish’s centennial events. Seethaler has traveled throughout the United States giving missions, retreats and renewal weekends. He preaches in both religious and secular settings. His topics include faith, values, stress, education and family issues. Several of his books and audio and videotapes have been published for national distribution. His daily radio program “Joyful Reflections’ is popular in western Pennsylvania. Kohr received his education at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass., and Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. He has served as a pastor of churches for 27 years in Missouri, Maryland and Pennsylvania, most recently in Belle Vernon Church of the Nazarene. He also organized one new church. He has served an additional 14 years as an evangelist conducting revivals and camp meetings throughout the United States and Canada.

During the 1993 Billy Graham Crusade in Pittsburgh, Kohr served as a supervisor of counselors.
