State police identify victim in fatal fire
PERRY TWP. – State police have identified the man who was killed Sunday night when fire swept through a home in Whitsett. State police said Thomas Wingrove, 47, of Star Junction died when a residence on Pilgrim Street caught fire around 8:45 p.m.
Police said Monday that an investigation into the fire is continuing and the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
Fayette County Deputy Coroner Marisa Springer pronounced Wingrove dead at the scene at 10:42 p.m.
Springer said Monday that the cause of death is pending autopsy results.
An autopsy as well as a toxicology test conducted late Monday were not available as of press time.
Springer said firefighters recovered Wingrove’s body from the home after finding him near a doorway.
According to A.J. Boni, Perry Township assistant fire chief, crews knocked down the fire quickly and damage was contained to the living room area. Boni said firefighters found Wingrove’s body near the couch.
He said the Pilgrim Street home is owned by Len Little.
A phone call made to the Little residence was not immediately returned.
In addition to state police, volunteer firefighters from Perry Township, DL&V, Dawson, Fayette City and Belle Vernon fire departments and emergency personnel from Perry Ambulance and the coroner’s office responded to the scene.
The state police fire marshal could not be reached for comment Monday.
