Richeyville post office hosting variety of activities
The Richeyville post office will host customer appreciation activities as part of the area’s annual National Pike Days celebration Friday through Sunday. Highlights include local artwork, created by Richeyville and Beth-Center students, that has adorned the post office windows and interior with the students’ renditions of the newest Disney stamps and images of the first postmaster general, Ben Franklin.
There will be a postal retail tent located adjacent to the post office stocked with official licensed retail products and a display of historic stamps and letters dating back to the Civil War; some bearing handwritten postage predating postage stamps.
Retail items will include postal artwork of Pittsburgh Steelers stars Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward, Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Palomalu, Willie Parker and others, plus full team photos; NASCAR prints of stars Jeff Gordon, as well as Dale Earnhart Sr. and Dale Earnhart Jr.; and Disney’s enchantment will be on full display with prints available of the newest “Art of Disney” romance stamps.
The times for the postal tent are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Among further highlights, the National Pike and post office history will be presented in scheduled speaking engagements by local citizens, historians and a retired postmaster. Check with the post office for a schedule of the various speakers.
Christopher Pohill, a 4 year-old Richeyville resident, will play the role of young Ben Franklin while holding office as Richeyville’s honorary postmaster for a day.
