PennDot to meet with local officials

By Steve Ferris 2 min read

The state Department of Transportation District 12 in Uniontown is inviting area municipal and school district officials to learn about ongoing and planned road and bridge projects at community outreach meetings in March. Two outreach meetings have been scheduled for Fayette and Greene counties on Thursday and two meetings are set for Washington and Westmoreland counties on March 8.

PennDOT District 12 spokeswoman Valerie Petersen said the meetings are intended for local officials and the media to review maintenance and construction projects.

Larger venues and longer meetings would be needed to go over the projects with the general public, Petersen said.

She said the meetings also give municipal and school district officials an opportunity to meet PennDOT officials, who they might otherwise only speak with on the phone.

“It’s an opportunity to see who we are and find out what’s happening,” Petersen said.

Attending the meeting to explain various transportation improvements projects will be District 12 Executive Joseph Szczur, the assistant executives for design, construction and maintenance, the traffic engineer, municipal services manager and county managers.

The agenda for the meetings includes a presentation about District 12’s goals for this year and planned roadway and bridge improvements.

Construction projects that are under way or will start this year, projects that will be let in 2008 and beyond, accomplishments, funding needs and a question and answer session also are on the agenda.

The first meeting will be held at the Greene County maintenance office classroom, 129 Jefferson Road in Waynesburg. Registration starts at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, followed by a networking and a map review session from 8:30 to 9 a.m., when the presentation begins.

The second meeting on Thursday will be in the downstairs auditorium in the Williams Building (Swimmer Hall) at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, on Route 119 in North Union Township. Registration begins at 12:15 p.m., followed by networking and a map review until 1 p.m., when the presentation starts.

On March 8, the first meeting is at the Washington County Fairgrounds, 2151 N. Main St. in Washington. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., followed by networking and a map review until 9 a.m., when the meeting starts.

The second meeting on March 8 will be held in the community room at the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport, 200 Pleasant Unity Road in Latrobe. Registration begins at 12:15 p.m., followed by networking and a map review until 1 p.m., when the presentation starts.
