Uniontown authority to pay $10,000 for demolishing of 2 homes

1 min read

The authority Tuesday agreed to pay $5,500 for razing a duplex at 39-41 Wilson Ave. and $4,500 for a single-family home at 10 Wilson Ave. Mayor Ed Fike told board members that both demolitions are almost finished.

In other business, Executive Director Mark Yauger said the state Department of Transportation is reviewing plans for the Morgantown Street streetscape project.

Elm Street manager Jeff McLaughlin encouraged board members to attend the “Cars, Craft and Kids” festival at the American Legion Post 51 on North Gallatin Avenue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Activities include a car show in the Legion lot, crafters and vendors on the street in front of the Legion, free health screenings, bingo in the Legion hall and a disc jockey. The street will be closed to traffic during the event.

The Gallatin Avenue Concerned Citizens Association is sponsoring the festival.

McLaughlin said the festival and the association’s first newsletter, The Gallatin Gazette, are intended to improve the image and identity of the neighborhood, which is part of the Elm Street revitalization plan.

“Trying to put a better face on the community,” McLaughlin said.
