Uniontown police seek teen suspect in attempted homicide
Uniontown police are searching for a Uniontown teenager wanted for attempted homicide following an armed robbery in early July.
Uniontown police Officer Jamie Holland said he secured a warrant for the arrest of Demond Wiggan, 17, of 49 Lenox St. on charges including criminal attempt homicide, three counts of robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a minor.
The warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
According to Holland, the warrant was secured by police following an incident at the home of Joseph Pullem of 20 Millview St., Uniontown.
Holland said that shortly after 9 p.m. July 3 Wiggan, also known as “O,” showed up at Pullem’s home and approached Pullem while he was on the porch.
Holland said Wiggan asked Pullem if he wanted to buy some marijuana and after he declined, Pullem told police that Wiggan stayed on the porch and engaged him in conversation.
During the conversation, Wiggan, whom Pullem told officers he had never met before the incident, pulled out a pistol and pointed it at him, stating, “Give me your necklace or I am going to kill you,” Holland said.
Wiggan then grabbed the necklace and ripped it from Pullem’s neck.
Holland said Wiggan then struck Pullem in the head before firing a single shot at Pullem and then fleeing on foot.
Through the course of their investigation, police were able to identity Wiggan as the suspect in the robbery.
This is not the teen’s first brush with the law.
Earlier this year, Wiggan was convicted on charges of riot, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and disorderly conduct for his role in an alleged gang attack in Uniontown in early 2010. He was subsequently sentenced to several months in prison.
Police said Wiggan should be considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information regarding Wiggan’s whereabouts is asked to call police at 724-4300-2929.
