Second man charged with alleged Connellsville robbery
A Uniontown man has been arrested and charged with robbing two people at gunpoint Saturday in Connellsville.
According to court documents, Juanya Knopsider, 18, was allegedly an accomplice in a robbery with Cody Darrell, 19, of Connellsville. Police said Darrell allegedly threatened a man and a woman with a knife and handgun around 10:30 p.m. Friday near the basketball courts at Gibson Terrace apartments in Connellsville.
Police have not identified the victims in the involved in the alleged incident.
Connellsville police Chief Jim Capitos alleged the pair stole about $170 from the man before they fled the scene. Knopsnider was arrested Monday.
Darrell was apprehended Saturday a short time after the robbery.
According to the criminal complaint, Darrell and Knopsnider are charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, simple assault, theft, receiving stolen property, harassment, trespassing and making terroristic threats.
Knopsider was arraigned Monday by Fayette County Senior Magisterial District Judge Brenda Cavalcante. His bond was set at $50,000, and he was taken to Fayette County Prison.
Darrell was arraigned Saturday before Fayette County Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr., who set his bond at $75,000. Darrell is incarcerated in Fayette County Prison.
Darrell allegedly assaulted one of the purported victims before he put him in a choke hold while holding a knife in his hand.
According to the complaint, Darrell then allegedly put a gun to the back of the man’s head and told him he would kill him if he did not empty his pockets. The man took $170 from his pockets.
The complaint said Knopsnider stood beside the man with a pocket knife and told him that he could not help because Darrell threatened to kill the man. Darrell and his accomplice allegedly picked up the money and fled the scene, the complaint said.
Both men will face preliminary hearings at later dates.
