The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has confirmed a tornado touched down in Washington County on Saturday afternoon, causing damage southeast of Ellsworth.

NWS teams are determining the intensity and duration of the tornado.

Trees and wires were knocked down on Beallsville Road during the storms, which ripped through Southwestern Pennsylvania early Saturday afternoon.

NWS teams plan to investigate three hard-hit locations after the storm system damaged areas of Washington, Fayette and Westmoreland counties, and they are planning to examine a damage path from south of Washington County Airport to just east of Connellsville.

Early afternoon storms on Saturday ripped through Southwestern Pennsylvania, leaving behind a swath of damage in Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

As of late Monday morning, more than 19,000 customers are still without power in those areas.

Officials in California, Connellsville, Ellsworth and Scottdale, among others, warned residents to be prepared to be without power for multiple days.

Many customers will have power restored sooner, depending on the level of damage. Restoration estimates will be updated on FirstEnergy’s outage map.
