Made and Grown market continues Tuesdays at Greene fairgrounds
The Greene County Department of Recreation is rounding out its first year of hosting the Made and Grown Market at the Greene County Fairgrounds.
The market was intended to replace the flea market that had originally been held at the fairgrounds, according to Courtney Hursey, director of recreation at recreation department.
“We were hosting a flea market every week and sometimes we would only have one vendor come to the flea market,” Hursey said. “I really looked at it like the flea market had run its course, but I still wanted to do something.”
Hursey and several other members of the department of recreation brainstormed what could replace the flea market.
“We sat down together and wanted to try this evening market focusing more on a vendor-style market,” she said. “Focusing more on showcasing people from Greene County and the region, showing what they can make and grow.”
Vendor offerings range from farm fresh produce to sewn items and homemade candles. A food truck is also present during the market.
The market itself takes place on the second Tuesday of every month from 5 to 8 p.m.
“I’ve really had a lot of fun with it,” Hursey said. “Getting to meet different people, and seeing what people can make and do has been a lot of fun.”
Hursey added several vendors have continued to come back every month.
“We now have people who specifically come back to visit specific vendors,” she said. “Just seeing the community come together and support vendors, and the vendors coming out to support the community has been a cool experience.”
Hursey noted there will be some changes coming for the market in 2027.
“The market will be running from January through May, then September through December,” she said. “We are also going to try to incorporate themes during certain months for the market.”
