The death of a Uniontown man who jumped out of a window while in police custody has been ruled a suicide.

The Office of the Allegheny County Medical Examiner reported that Bernard Geisel, 42, died of blunt-force trauma to the head on Dec. 29 in Connellsville.

Geisel was handcuffed and being escorted by Connellsville police down a stairwell inside the unoccupied Brimstone Building when he leaped headfirst through a closed window and fell onto the sidewalk.

He was pronounced dead at Forbes Hospital on Dec. 30.

State police investigated the incident since Connellsville police were involved in the arrest.

Trooper Kalee Barnhart said the investigation remains open, and declined further comment.
