The most serious charges against a Brownsville man who was accused of shooting another man in the leg outside a Redstone Township home last summer have been withdrawn following his preliminary hearing Monday afternoon.

Felony charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault against Calvin Edward Patterson were withdrawn in connection with the June 22 shooting after the alleged victim did not show up for court to testify.

Redstone Township police had accused Patterson of going to a home at 19 Fairgarden St. and shooting David Simms in the leg outside the residence. Simms was found in the home’s kitchen with a bullet wound to his leg.

Police charged Patterson, 38, the day after the shooting, but he wasn’t arrested until Dec. 18.

Patterson will still face trial in connection with case, however, because a felony charge of possession of a prohibited weapon and misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment were held for court following the hearing before District Judge Michael Defino. In addition to the attempted homicide and aggravated assault charges, a misdemeanor count of simple assault was also withdrawn.

Two additional cases for Patterson that were unrelated were also heard Monday afternoon. Defino ordered Patterson to stand trial on charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment in connection with a Oct. 2 incident in Brownsville, while he dismissed the simple assault case in the borough from May 29.

Defino set Patterson’s bond at $7,500 cash, and he is being held at the Fayette County jail.
