West Leisenring man sentenced to state prison for sexually assaulting girl
A West Leisenring man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a young girl over several years was sentenced Tuesday to state prison, although he could be paroled in six months due to already serving more than two years in jail while waiting for the case to be adjudicated.
Anthony Eugene Angelo, 63, was sentenced by Judge Joseph George Jr. in Fayette County Court of Common Pleas to serve 2 ½ to 10 years in prison as part of the plea agreement.
Angelo pleaded guilty Feb. 6 to felony charges of statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of a minor, along with misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and indecent exposure. As part of the plea deal with prosecutors, felony charges of child rape and involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a child under 16 were withdrawn.
Angelo was charged in March 2019 and accused of molesting the girl over several years at a Fayette County home when she was between the ages of 8 and 14.
“The agreement was made with the discussion and consent of the victim and their family,” Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele said in a phone interview Tuesday after the sentencing.
Online court records show Angelo spent 728 days in jail – just shy of two years – but he has been free on $50,000 bond since May 2022. That means Angelo will be eligible for release in early November.
A pre-sentence report found Angelo to be a sexually violent predator, and he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. After he’s released from state prison, he must remain on probation for three years.
Angelo’s defense attorney, Chad Schneider, declined to comment on the plea agreement after the sentencing Tuesday. Fayette County Assistant District Attorney John Kopas prosecuted the case.
