A section of Route 88 in California and Coal Center boroughs will be closed for nearly three months beginning Thursday so crews can perform slide repairs on the shoulder of the highway. The state Department of Transportation is closing the road between Pike Run Road and Dally Road to perform the repairs. A posted detour will take travelers on Route 43 and Elco Hill Road until the bulk of the repairs are completed and the road reopened in early November. PennDOT is paying $2.74 million to Plum Contracting to perform the work.
