A Fayette County man is in custody after being accused of sharing child pornography on the internet.

Police said the investigation into Ryan Plesz, 35, of Vanderbilt, began last week after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from the cloud computing company Synchronoss that a user in the area had uploaded multiple files of child sexually abusive material.

After the state Attorney General’s office approved a subpoena for subscriber information linked to the internet protocol address, police then obtained a search warrant for the listed address on Main Street in Vanderbilt, according to the criminal complaint.

At the address, court documents stated, police encountered Plesz, who told them he had saved sexually abusive material to his electronic devices and to his Verizon cloud account.

One of the files depicted a sex act involving a girl between the approximate ages of 8 and 12, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Plesz is charged with felony counts of possessing child sexually abusive material, disseminating photos or film of child sex acts and criminal use of a communication facility.

He was unable to post the $100,000 bond and is in the Fayette County jail.

Plesz is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Judge Richard Kasunic on Sept. 9.
