California Area School District campus locked down after threat
California Area School District locked down its campus Friday morning after the high school received a phone call from someone threatening a shooting.
According to a post on the district’s Facebook page, the high school received the call at about 11:34 a.m. Friday. The post states the caller had the “voice of a young female” who said they need $2,000 in a red container or that they were “shooting the school up.”
The district said both the high school and elementary school on Trojan Way were immediately secured, and that California police believe the threat was not credible.
Local and state police were on campus Friday. The district stated it was not releasing students.
“(Police) feel students are the safest in the building and we will follow their guidance,” reads the district’s Facebook post.
According to the district, after-school clubs and Beyond the Bell were canceled Friday. Ed Woods, head coach of the football team, said he spoke with the athletic director who indicated the football game against Cornell High School would not be canceled.
“I’m hoping we’ll play,” Woods said.
