South Main Street in Washington will close for two weeks beginning Sept. 8 to relocate waterlines ahead of the Catfish Creek culvert bridge reconstruction project planned for the spring.

The road closure, which originally was scheduled to begin this Tuesday, will occur between East Prospect and Park avenues to allow for Golden Triangle Construction crews to move the watermains operated by Pennsylvania American Water at the intersection where the culvert bridge will be removed and rebuilt, according to the state Department of Transportation. That project is expected to temporarily close both South Main Street and Park Avenue at various times before being completed next fall.

The official detour during next month’s project will utilize Route 40, Route 19 and Sanitorium Road. Following the two-week closure, there will be single-lane restrictions in place through the end of September.
