Brownsville man arrested in Greene County robbery
State police charged a man Monday after he allegedly threatened two Walmart employees with a knife after stealing several products.
Joshua John Maraney, 35, of Brownsville, faces felony charges of robbery and aggravated assault, and misdemeanors of terroristic threats and simple assault.
According to the criminal complaint, shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, police were called to the Walmart at 405 Murtha Drive, Franklin Township.
Court records accuse Maraney of ripping the tags off of multiple items and stuffing them into duffel bags.
Two employees confronted Maraney as he was exiting the store. Charging documents state that Maraney brandished a knife and swung it in the direction of the employees, who are not identified in court records.
According to the complaint, Maraney stole a backpack, a bait knife, a pair of jeans and a hat. The total value of the products was $110.25.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office posted to its Facebook page Monday afternoon that deputies and state troopers had arrested Maraney.
Maraney was arraigned Monday before District Judge Lee Watson, who sent him to the Greene County jail without bond. According to online court records, bond was denied due to Maraney having additional warrants for his arrest in Fayette County, as well as the seriousness of the charges.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. Jan. 7.
