Edward E. Shelton, 55, of Connellsville allegedly had numerous stamp bags of fentanyl in his possession when he was arrested on Tuesday.

Police in Fayette County arrested two men this week in separate investigations into the sale of narcotics.

Edward E. Shelton, 55, of Connellsville, and Robert Michael Stratton, 40, of Morgantown, W. Va., each face felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Shelton’s case stems from when he allegedly sold suspected fentanyl to a confidential informant working with Connellsville police on Aug. 20, 2024.

According to the criminal complaint, the sale occurred at the intersection of Stahl Square and Porter Avenue in Connellsville. Shelton is accused of selling the informant 1.17 grams of fentanyl.

According to a post on Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele’s Facebook page, investigators served a search warrant in Shelton’s case Wednesday. Connellsville police and county detectives found more than 300 grams of suspected cocaine, 1,100 stamp bags of suspected heroin and fentanyl, and more than $7,000 cash.

Police also seized nine firearms, though Shelton is not currently charged with any gun crimes.

Detectives filed charges against Stratton after he was pulled over in Point Marion Tuesday for failing to signal when turning left onto Penn Street from South Main Street.

Charging documents state that police found 65 grams of suspected fentanyl in Stratton’s vehicle.

Stratton was arraigned Wednesday night before District Judge Jason Cox, who sent him to the Fayette County jail on $100,000 bond. Cox arraigned Shelton Wednesday morning and set his bond at $40,000.
