A child suffered minor injuries on a ride at the Fayette County Fair Sunday.

He was riding on Alien Abduction, a Gravitron-like spinning ride that uses centrifugal force to pin people to the inside of a flying saucer. He somehow slipped and bumped his head on one of the seats, said Ron Thomas, co-owner of the Wilmington, N.C.-based Powers & Thomas Midway Entertainment, which owns the ride.

“(He) walked away from the incident,” he said.

Alien Abduction was not among those listed on an online state database for inspection records for Powers & Thomas. But Thomas said the ride had been inspected both before the fair and immediately after by a state-certified inspector.

“It was reinspected right away, and it was cleared that there were no malfunctions,” he said.

The state Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Ride and Measurement Standards had not responded to messages seeking comment as of Wednesday afternoon.
