Waynesburg man charged with burglarizing uncle’s home
A Waynesburg man was arrested after allegedly stealing more than $200 from his uncle after illegally entering his home early Thursday morning.
Christopher Farkas, 26, was arraigned Thursday before Greene County District Judge David Balint.
About 6:21 a.m., according to charging documents, Waynesburg police were dispatched to a residence on Greene Street, where Farkus’s uncle had reported his nephew loitering outside the property.
When Waynesburg Patrolman Nathan Hamilton returned to the house after a follow-up 911 call, the uncle said “$200 and change” was missing from his wallet, police said. Furthermore, the complaint stated, the uncle said he had found his door left open while making the original call to police.
As Hamilton was taking the report, the complaint said, a caller to 911 reported Farkas was sleeping in an office at 135 W. Franklin St. The caller told police Farkus had gone to his uncle’s house to find money and pills, according to court documents.
Hamilton then spoke to Farkas, who admitted to going to his uncle’s home and entering without permission, the complaint stated.
After Farkas was arrested, he was taken back to Waynesburg police headquarters, Hamilton wrote in the charging documents. There, Hamilton wrote, “he continued to voluntarily admit to committing the crimes in front of the Chief of Police and I without being questioned.”
Farkas faces felony charges of burglary and criminal trespass, along with misdemeanor charges of theft and prowling.
Farkas’ bail was set at $10,000 Thursday. He is currently lodged at the county jail.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 26.
