Fayette County Sheriff James Custer issued a warning about scam calls related to jury duty.

Individuals have received phone calls from someone identifying themselves as a deputy from the sheriff’s office. The caller tells the individual that they missed jury duty, and a warrant has been issued for their arrest.

To take care of the warrant, the caller asks for more than $4,000 to cover fines and costs. Individuals are instructed to deposit the funds at a kiosk to an account provided by the caller.

Custer noted the sheriff’s office would never ask for money over the phone, and said anyone who receives a call like this should refuse to provide personal information or send money.
