ICE confirms operations in city of Washington
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Philadelphia has confirmed it has conducted operations in the city of Washington.
In an email, ICE said the agency “conducts daily enforcement actions across Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia. This includes the city of Washington, Pennsylvania.”
Since Oct. 20, at least 23 immigrants have reportedly been detained in operations in the city and nearby communities.
ICE operations are federal, and the agency isn’t required to notify local police of enforcement actions.
ICE arrests have soared across the country since President Donald Trump’s second term began in January and the government launched a massive crackdown on immigrants. In southwestern Pennsylvania, detainments have increased 250% since this time last year, according to Casa San Jose, a Pittsburgh nonprofit support organization for Latino immigrants.
