Trick-or-treaters collect candy and treats from a table manned by city of Washington police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday.

Downtown Washington businesses held a spooktacular trick-or-treat event Saturday afternoon, drawing hundreds of costumed superheroes, creepy creatures and storybook characters who received treats – no tricks – from business owners. About 45 downtown businesses, along with Washington city police, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, and the city of Washington Fire Department took part in the event, said Jane Worthington of organizers for the Washington Downtown Business District event. Several participating businesses were decorated with balloons to help identify the candy stops.

“I’m very proud of the downtown area for doing this. The kids have been so responsive and it’s been a lot of fun,” Worthington said.
