Masontown caretaker accused of abusing client
A Masontown man was arrested Friday, accused of assaulting the woman for whom he works as a caretaker.
Raymond Drake, 41, faces a felony charge of strangulation along with misdemeanor charges of abuse of a care dependent person, terroristic threats, simple assault, institutional vandalism and disorderly conduct.
Aiyana Calloway called Masontown police Friday afternoon after a physical altercation with Drake, which she said was the latest of a series of physical domestic abuse incidents, according to the complaint. Calloway said Drake had placed his hand over her mouth, and also placed his arm around her chest and shoulders to prevent her from leaving; she then bit him in self-defense, she told police. He also threw her phone into the woods, court paperwork said.
Calloway said Drake had also smoked crack cocaine, contributing to his anger, the complaint stated.
Drake admitted to putting his hand over Calloway’s mouth to keep her from screaming, as well as throwing her phone into the woods, court documents state.
After being placed in the police car, Drake slammed his head against the barrier separating him from the front seats, drawing blood, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Once in the holding cell, Drake tried to break free of his shackles and threatened to fight police, the complaint said.
Drake’s bail was set at $50,000. He is lodged in the Fayette County jail.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 9 before Magisterial Judge Daniel Shimshock.
