A Smithfield man wanted for skipping a court appearance in Allegheny County was arrested this week in Morgantown, W.Va.

Craig Owen David Jr., 47, was declared a fugitive five years ago after he failed to appear for a November 2020 pretrial conference in a case that involved gun charges.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office indicated detectives received credible information that David was living in an apartment on Brookhaven Road in Morgantown.

Deputies from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office took David into custody Wednesday morning. He was taken to North Central Regional Jail in West Virginia and is awaiting extradition to Allegheny County.

According to online court records, David is charged with prohibited possession of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia. When he was initially arrested in February 2020, he was released on a nonmonetary bond.
