A Tuesday afternoon fire in Crucible left two adults and six children without a home.

The fire at 411 E. Fourth Ave. was called in by the residents of the home around 2:20 p.m., said Carmichaels First Assistant Fire Chief Mike Riggen.

A woman in the home had a burnt hand, but refused treatment, Riggen said. No one else was injured, but the family dog was killed, he said.

“I’m going to say the structure’s a loss. It might look OK, still standing, but inside it’s pretty burnt up,” Riggen said.

The fire is believed to have started by a wood burner, but the state police fire marshal will make the final determination, Riggen said.

Greene County Red Cross will assist the residents.

Assisting Carmichaels were Rices Landing, Nemacolin, Jefferson and on standby, Greensboro.
