South Strabane Township police arrested a man Friday after he was accused of assaulting a woman in a road rage incident.

Krishnakumar Kandasamy, 38, of South Strabane, faces a felony aggravated assault charge.

According to the criminal complaint, police officers were called at about 6:40 a.m. Friday to the intersection of East Beau Street and Trinity Point Drive.

South Strabane Township police Chief Drew Hilk said Kandasamy and Lisa Jane Eckert were stopped in the left turning lane on East Beau Street to turn into Trinity Point. Both had exited their vehicles and began arguing.

A witness told police that Kandasamy assaulted Eckert in the middle of the roadway. Charging documents state that both the witness and Eckert described to investigators how Kandasamy threw her to the ground, kicked her and punched her in the head.

Kandasamy told police that Eckert had been following him with her vehicle’s high beams on, and during their initial argument was trying to obtain his license plate number and threatening him.

According to the complaint, police reviewed traffic camera footage that corroborated the statements from the witness and Eckert.

Eckert was checked by emergency medical responders at the scene, but drove herself to the hospital for treatment. She suffered cuts to her ear and wrist.

Kandasamy was arraigned Friday morning before District Judge Michael Manfredi, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $110,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. April 21.

Hilk used the incident to remind drivers of retaining “control of your own environment and emotions.”

“Avoid engagement of any kind with other operators,” Hilk said. “Try to remove yourself from the situation.”

Hilk cautioned that before honking your horn or making rude gestures, keep in mind that you do not know the emotional state of the other driver.

“It’s best to just not engage,” Hilk said.
