Uniontown man charged with arson, aggravated assault
A Uniontown man is accused of intentionally setting a fire at the home of his ex-girlfriend Wednesday morning.
Javon Brown, 34, was allegedly seen walking up the back steps to the kitchen window at 150 Coffee St., immediately before a fire broke out around 3 a.m., according to the criminal complaint.
As flames broke out, he ran back to his truck, house resident Marlene Michaux told police.
Michaux was one of eight people in the home, including a child, according to the criminal complaint.
A trooper at the scene reported a “strong odor of gasoline” in the kitchen, which had burnt curtains, black streaks up the wall, and fire damage to a table and chair, the criminal complaint said.
Evans was taken into custody at a house nearby on Evans Street, where his girlfriend told police he had been home all night, charging documents stated. Police said his vehicle was warm to the touch, and had a strong gasoline smell in the passenger seat.
Brown is charged with arson in an inhabited building or structure, arson with danger of death or bodily injury, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief.
Judge Jason Cox denied Brown bail Wednesday morning for posing a threat to himself and others.
Brown’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 12.
