Ed Riedman Firefighters responded to a basement fire on Keisterville Road in Menallen Township Monday night. There were no injuries in the fire, which was reported at 7:44 p.m., said Sue Kozak-Griffith, public information officer for the Fayette County Emergency Management Agency. The residents, two adults and a child, were being assisted by the American Red Cross. It was unknown Tuesday if the pets inside the building had escaped the fire, Kozak-Griffith said. Assisting the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department at the scene were fire departments from Uniontown, Smock, West Leisenring and North Union Township; Menallen Township Police Department; Fayette EMS; and an animal response team from Westmoreland County. The state police fire marshal is investigating the fire.
