Ex-caregiver accused of stealing more than $3K from Greene man

1 min read

The former caregiver for an intellectually disabled Greene County man is accused of siphoning more than $3,000 from his bank account over a four-month period this winter.

Meghan Cox, 34, of Clarksville, allegedly stole the money from Charles Durbin’s Chime banking account and transferred it to herself via Cash App.

Durbin, who recently suffered a stroke, found unauthorized transfers to Cox after he was admitted to the hospital in January, according to court paperwork.

As caregiver to the 64-year-old Durbin, Cox had access to his accounts and passwords, police said.

An investigation by Waynesburg police found 36 transactions from Durbin’s account between Oct. 8 and Feb. 5 not made by him, totaling $3,441.72. According to the complaint, a list of Cash App transactions showed Cox was the recipient.

Cox is charged with financial exploitation of an older adult or care dependent person, theft by unlawful taking and use of a counterfeit access device.

No preliminary hearing had been scheduled as of Thursday.
