Trying to find the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for your ex? Fayette County Sheriff James Custer has you covered.

For the low, low price of a phone call, Custer will send someone out to surprise that philanderer with a pair of shiny silver bracelets and a chauffeured ride to the county hotel.

Provided they have a warrant out for their arrest, of course.

Custer announced his Valentine’s Day special with a notification on the county sheriff’s app featuring a poster with a humorous plea:

“Roses are red, blue lights shine bright,

Got an ex with warrants? Let’s plan them a night.

This Valentine’s Day,

Show you still care

Send us their location

We’ll handle it from there.”

The poem appears beneath an AI-generated image of Custer giving a thumbs-up with an inmate behind bars in the background.

Custer said his daughter used ChatGPT to generate the image, and then added the text. He said he got the idea to put out the holiday-themed request after seeing another sheriff’s department do something similar.

“I thought it was kind of a trendy idea to make light of the holiday weekend. Maybe at the same time clear some warrants if somebody knows of someone,” Custer said. “We do have plenty of warrants that need to be served.”

How many? Custer estimates his office has more than 800 bench warrants.

But the invitation to turn someone in isn’t limited to spurned lovers, he said. Callers who may be angry, annoyed or upstanding (maybe all three?) are welcome to reach out too.

“It can be their ex, it can be their neighbor. ‘You just made me mad, and I know you got this warrant,'” Custer said.

The sheriff’s office isn’t the only law enforcement agency offering to help jilted lovers.

The Waynesburg Borough Police Department does not have nearly as many warrants to get through, but they’re willing to do their part to spread the love, according to their Facebook post.

“Have an ex with a warrant? Send us their whereabouts, we’ll send an officer to wish them a happy Valentine’s Day! Call now and we will include a courtesy ride to the Greene County Jail free of charge!” reads the text on the image of a Waynesburg police cruiser.

Chief Billy Nichols said the idea came from one of his officers.

“One of the police officers that works here sent me something similar to that from another state and said, ‘Can we do this?'” Nichols said.

According to Nichols, they only ever have a handful of warrants to serve at any given time.

“Our arrest warrants for charges, we usually serve those pretty quick,” Nichols said.

However, they will still act if someone in the area is listed in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as having an arrest warrant in another jurisdiction.

“If we come across you, we’ll be more than happy to pick you up,” Nichols said.

The Valentine’s Day post has not led to any actual arrests, but according to Nichols people have been known to turn in their ex-boyfriends or girlfriends.

“Yes, it actually has happened before,” Nichols said.
