MVAA board members to receive community service awards
Two board members of the Mon Valley Academy for the Arts (MVAA) are being recognized for their service to the community.
Annette Buffer, president, and SueAnne Antonucci, treasurer, have been selected to receive the annual Community Service Award from the Brownsville Area Ministerial Association.
They will be presented the award during a service at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at Pleasant View Presbyterian Church, 533 Royal Road, Smock. Light refreshments will follow.
The Brownsville Area Ministerial Association consists of 12 active area churches, with another 20 to 30 churches involved, working together for the good of the community.
The award recognizes the pair’s long-standing service in promoting the arts, expanding access to arts education, and strengthening community connections in Brownsville and the entire Mon Valley.
Along with serving as MVAA president, Buffer is the instructor for the fife students participating in the organization’s Regimental Fife and Drum Corp. She also is developing a show choir called “VoiceZ on Fire.” She also serves as a community choir director with the Bentworth Ministerium Community Choir.
Antonucci has been a choir member and music librarian, including church and community choirs, for 35 years. She also has served as the treasurer of the “Power of Music,” a community concert MVAA organization.
In conjunction with the ceremony, MVAA rehearsal activities scheduled for that evening have been canceled.
