A Uniontown man was arrested Thursday as part of a large-scale narcotics investigation in Maryland.

David Coffey, 63, was one of multiple people apprehended as part of an investigation by the Allegany County Narcotics Task Force in Maryland. The investigation determined Coffey had left the Uniontown area while carrying drugs and headed directly to Maryland, where he was taken into custody, Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said Monday.

“In their busts, they’ve located approximately 390 grams of crack cocaine, which is significant,” Aubele said.

Acting on information from Allegany County’s task force, Fayette County’s task force executed a search warrant at Coffey’s home on Walnut Street.

There, Aubele’s office said in a Facebook post Saturday, they recovered 10 grams of crack cocaine and indicators of drug distribution; $4,200 in cash; and 14 firearms, two of which had previously been reported stolen.

Coffey is barred from owning a firearm in Pennsylvania because of a prior felony conviction, Aubele said. He was convicted in 1994 of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Multiple felony charges were filed in Allegany County District Court Friday against Coffey, including possession of a narcotic with intent to distribute and possession of a large amount of narcotics.

Coffey is being held without bond in Maryland.

Aubele said Coffey will also be charged in Fayette County for possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a narcotic with intent to distribute and receiving stolen property.

He thanked the Maryland officers for their work in the case.

“We rely heavily upon our cooperation with different agencies, whether they be agencies in other counties or even out of state, and it’s that cooperation that allowed us to make this arrest,” Aubele said. “We appreciate their efforts that have led to us being able to get these items away from this individual.”
