Greene County Farmland Preservation Board accepting applications

1 min read

The Greene County Farmland Preservation Board is accepting applications from qualifying landowners for participation in the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program. Applications will be accepted through the end of this year.

The program is designed to help farmers protect their land for future generations by permanently preserving farmland from non-agricultural development. Landowners may sell or donate a conservation easement while retaining ownership of their property and continuing agricultural production.

A conservation easement is a legal interest in land that restricts development or use of the property for purposes other than agriculture. Easements may be granted to the state, a county agricultural land preservation program, a local government unit, or a land trust. Once established, the easement restrictions are permanently recorded with the county recorder of deeds.

Landowners in Center, Cumberland, Franklin, Greene, Jefferson, Morgan, Washington, and Wayne townships in Greene County are eligible.

For more information or to request an application, contact the Greene County Conservation District at 724-852-5278 or gccd@greenecountypa.gov.
