Masontown WIC office closing
The Masontown office that provides services for the Women, Infants and Children program (WIC) will close on Feb. 1.
Susan Mahokey, project manager at Fayette County Community Action Agency, said the closure will consolidate operations for the county’s three WIC offices. The fewer than 100 clients who receive services in Masontown will be transferred to the office in Uniontown, located at 140 N. Beeson Boulevard.
“We surveyed our participants … and they really prefer to come to the Uniontown clinic because of the appointment stability,” Mahokey said, noting that the clinic is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
There is also a WIC office located in Connellsville at 1064 Morrell Ave., which is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
She said there will be no jobs lost as a result of the office closure.
WIC, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is a supplemental nutrition program for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or recently had a baby; infants and children younger than 5. Participants must live in Pennsylvania and meet income deadlines.
Mahokey said there are about 3,000 WIC participants in Fayette County.
New clients are currently being accepted.
