Fourth of July storms hit region
Flooding forced the closure of parts of Main Street (Route 201) in Fayette City after storms struck Saturday. The roadway was one of several areas in the region to see flooding after the July 4 thunderstorms, which dropped 2 to 3 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh office. Saturday’s heavy rains caused the postponement of the Fourth of July fireworks show at Washington Park in Washington until Sunday night. Another flood watch was in effect for numerous Southwestern Pennsylvania counties from 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday, including Washington and higher elevations in Fayette. [Courtesy of Jamie Trozzo]
