Free water testing workshop offered
Private water supply users in Fayette and surrounding counties are invited to attend the “Understanding PFAS in Private Water Systems” workshop on July 16 at 1 p.m. at the Fayette County Extension Office, 34 W. Peter St., Second Floor, Uniontown.
Participants will gain a better understanding of how PFAS move through the environment, potential pathways for human exposure, and available testing and monitoring resources for private water supplies. The workshop will also cover how to interpret test results, explore management options, and review current scientific research and regulatory developments related to PFAS.
At the workshop, each household will receive a no-cost PFAS test package through a PA DEP-accredited water testing laboratory, valued at approximately $300.
To qualify for free water testing, participants must utilize a private water supply as their primary source of drinking water, participate in the educational workshop, collect their water samples, and return them to a designated local drop-off location within a few days of the event.
Registration is required and seats are very limited. Additional information and registration are available online at https://extension.psu.edu/understanding-pfas-in-private-water-systems or by calling 1-877-345-0691.
This program is being offered at no cost by Penn State Extension with funding through a Pennsylvania Department of Health cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control, Environmental Health Capacity building initiative.
